In July, Los Angeles City Council President Herb Wesson advanced a motion seeking to redevelop two city-owned parking lots in Leimert Park – 3416 W. 43rd Street and 4300-4326 S. Degnan Boulevard.
Wesson’s motion cited a recent study, funded by the Economic and Workforce Development Department. The study found what long-time residents have always known – there is “potential market demand for residential, retail, and office in the area surrounding Leimert Park Village”.
The study further concluded that residential development would be the “highest performing option” and therefore, the most likely use for both properties.
Wesson’s motion has been referred to the City Council’s Economic Development Committee for consideration.
If approved, the city will then likely identify developers for the pair of lots near the Crenshaw/LAX Line, which is set to open in 2020.
