Growing speculation points to Amazon Grocery as the new “mystery tenant” at a major redevelopment project underway in Ladera Heights. Rumors surrounding Amazon’s arrival have increased in recent weeks following the announcement that Smart & Final had officially backed out of their lease agreement with The Interchange at La Cienega.
Should Amazon sign on to the project, they would join co-anchor Marshall’s, Chick-fil-A, Spectrum, and Jersey Mike’s on the 8.6-acre redevelopment located at the intersection of La Cienega Blvd, Centinela Ave, and La Tijera Blvd. With construction already completed on the 28,000-square foot building, Amazon ‘Fresh Grocery’ could conceivably open in Ladera Heights this fall.
According to an article written by Michelle Goldchain for WNLA, leasing agent Peter Spragg declined to comment specifically about the Amazon rumors, only stating that a replacement tenant would be announced later in the year.
Through separate reporting, The Ladera Heights Civic Association verified several key details of the original story, adding that a representative from project developer Red Mountain Group confirmed that the “mystery” store would be a national grocery store with strategic plans to open multiple locations in coming months.
Last week, the online retail giant made news with the grand opening of their first Amazon Fresh Grocery store. Located in Woodland Hills, the new ‘brick and mortar’ concept is the first of several locations that Amazon has already announced for Southern California market.
